The Sound of Music is one movie that I have seen countless times. Just on Christmas Day it was shown on TV and my son asked me why I was watching that movie again since he saw me watched it before.
When we were young, my sisters and I used to sing Do-Re-Mi over and over again until we croak. This song is one of the most well-known songs in the world.

Yet despite the movies success, Austrians specially people of Salzburg are disinterested in the movie. It’s not because Austrian’s don’t like the movie. It’s because they haven’t really seen it. It is barely ever shown in cinemas or on TV in Austria and when it was released, the second half was removed because of the sensitive issue of the Nazis in Austria.I guess this bit of information is not known to anyone except for those who join the Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg.
Hubby and I have seen the film too many times to count, so we knew on our visit to Salzburg that there was one thing we wanted to do: visit the Hellbrunn and Mirabell Palaces which were film locations of Sound of Music.

Below is the Mirabell Gardens where the children dance around the statue of Pegasus singing “Do-Re Mi".

We then went to Hellbrunn Palace that gazebo where girls dream of a wearing a pink chiffon dress and having a boy sing to them “You are 16, going on 17…” The pavillion was reconstructed at Hellbrunn Palace.

This is one city that reminds me of my childhood, not because I went here before but my love for Sound of Music has made me love this city more.Salzburg is definitely one of the most beautiful cities we have visited.
