Its totally not a secret to people who know me that I have a fear of flying.
Although I have flown several times, the minute I enter the plane, I start reciting my rosary just to calm my nerves.
It is therefore important for me (specially before a long haul flight) to check the airlines and aircraft I am using for the flight and specially the safety records of the airline and of the aircraft.
For our very long summer vacation next year we are flying with Air Canada, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, very reputable names in the airline industry you might say.
I am specially thrilled that our flight from Frankfurt(connecting from Zurich) to Manila is Singapore airlines all the way. Having flown with SQ several times when we were still in Asia, I know we will be well taken cared of and quite comfortable in our 16 hours flight.(whew)
So here are the aircrafts and airlines we will be flying with by June 2013.
TORONTO-ZURICH , AIR CANADA, AIRBUS A330-300No.2 Air Canada has been ranked number 2 of 10 of the safest airlines inn the world.
Founded in 1936, and flying to 178 destinations worldwide, Air Canada is one of the safest airlines in the world, having made 4.84 million flights since its last fatal accident back in 1983.

Glad to know that in the case of the
Airbus A330, it has only 2 hull-loss accidents with a total of 7 fatalities. The 7 Airbus A330 fatalities were in fact the crew and personnel involved with the test flight and so one can say that no commercial passengers have so far been affected in the 15 years that it has flown.(hurrah for that!)
ZURICH TO FRANKFURT, LUFTHANSA AIRBUS 319
This is a relatively short flight to Frankfurt. Although the A 319 Airbus is a much smaller plane, the safety records are quite good and knowing the Germans' precision and safety records, we know Lufthansa will also be a safe flight for us.
FRANKFURT TO MANILA, SINGAPORE AIRLINES BOEING 777 We are taking Singapore Airlines BOEING 777 planes from Frankfurt to Manila and also from Manila to Singapore on our way back home to Toronto.

The last Singapore Airlines airline crash I can recall is when we were still in Singapore. But that doesnt mean it is unsafe. Singapore Airlines has been consistently ranked the Best Airline in the world and that for me is enough. The Boeing 777 aircraft which Singapore airlines has the newest fleet is also one of the most safe worthy planes .
SINGAPORE TO TORONTO, LUFTHANSA AIRBUS A380-800 This is the leg that I am very eager to experience since we are flying again on the A380. This is our second A380 flight, the first one was with
Emirates from Dubai to Toronto in June 2010. Despite a long 20 hour leg, this would be a breeze if the plane ride is comfortable.

This big plane is one of the smoothest and most quiet and spacious plane rides we have taken. I wish the Lufthansa A380 flight will give us the same flying experience.
