Planning a trip using the railway system in Europe is a bit confusing for me since there are a lot of train systems to consider among which are the German, Swiss, Thalys and Eurail Trains to name a few. I was advised to book as early as 90 or 120 days before departure using point to point reservation rather than buying a Eurail pass for 3-4 country train which is quite flexible but expensive.
