Visiting the Toronto Zoo in Cold Weather

We finally visited the Toronto Zoo. This is the only Toronto attraction that we never got to visit during our first year in Canada. The entrance fee of $20 was quite hefty for us and the free Toronto Zoo tickets being given by the Toronto Library is always the first to be snapped up which prevented us from going here. So when the zoo announced a community day with entrance of only $5 for the weekend of November 24 & 25 we decided to go even if the weather was bordering on zero and negative degrees. Above: Map of the zoo that covers 10 kilometres of trail.
The Toronto Zoo is the largest zoo in Canada.
It is divided into seven zoogeographic regions: Indo-Malaya, Africa, Americas, Tundra Trek, Australasia, Eurasia and the Canadian Domain.
Some animals are displayed indoors in tropical pavilions and outdoors in what would be their naturalistic environments, with viewing at many levels. Above: the Canadian Domain As we entered the zoo, as expected snow began to fall. We were geared up to brave the freezing weather trying to navigate the zoo map which covered all 10 kms of the walking trail. Mind you this is a big zoo, it covers 287 hectares of land with over 5000 animals representing 500 species. I specificallly liked their zebras, giraffes and fish exhibits. This is one zoo I wouldn't mind visiting again. Because of its huge area, I am sure it would look different in spring, summer and fall specially with the changing of the colours of the trees and blooming of flowers.
