Exploring Caledon

Since it was a cool(23C) summer day and a few days away from Fall, we decided to visit the Cheltenham Badlands (again)in Caledon, this time with hubby in tow.The first time I was so scared of going down the slippery slopes, during this visit however I was persuaded by my son to come down and have a family photo. I guess we did manage to take beautiful family photos. Another agenda of my two sons in going to Caledon was to visit the Waterfalls. After Cheltenham, we proceeded to the Waterfall which is located at the Forks of the Credit Provincial Park. Going to the park is quite easy, just proceed to Charleston Side Road and go south to Mc Laren Road where the entrance to the park is located. To access the waterfall, you must park at Forks of the Credit Provincial Park (we paid $3 for 2 hour parking) and hike approximately 30-45 minutes along the Bruce Trail. The clue for you to know if you are near the falls is when you reach the Bridge from the Trans Canadian trail. There is no trail to the bottom and it is a steep climb to get there. The best way to get to the bottom is to follow along the railway and descend from there but this one is not recommended. However when you reach the falls you could automatically see the railway on top of it To show you how the approach to the Waterfalls looks like, view this video my son did, just dont mind their bickering about the waterfalls. The view of the Falls has been diminished with the concrete retaining wall built to protect the railway. You will also find at the top of the Falls the remains of one of the oldest power plants in Canada. This power plant ruins are fenced off from public access. Do not be discouraged(like me) if you find the trail quite a long walk since along the way you can see a good view of the river and also do some fishing. There are camp tables where you could sit down and take a breather specially near the river and the bridge. This is a particularly good to hike in Autumn and there are good spots specially near the river for fishing.Bring a bottle of water when you go for this trek and also wear your most comfortable pair of sports shoes.
