This is the first of a series of hotel reviews that I will post on this blog. Rebranded as Pentahotel Beijing, this hotel is nestled in the heart of Beijing’s business district and government office area. This is a hotel that integrates accommodation, dining, shopping and business. Pentahotel is conveniently located just two minutes away from the Chongwenmen metro station and around 10 minutes by metro from Beijing Central Business District.
It’s close to Beijing Tongren Hospital, Beijing Hospital, Beijing Railway Station and Beijing South Station. What’s more, Wangfujin Street, Oriental Plaza, Tian’anmen Square, Qianmen Street, Hongqiao Pearl Market, and Temple of Heaven are a stone’s throw away.
Although their front desk people were so unfriendly,I will still suggest this hotel for the sole reason of its location.
THE LOCATION
Take Line 2 of Beijing's subway to Chong Wen Men Station and leave by exit C. Walk to the corner and look up and beyond. You will see the New World Shopping Center. Right behind it is the Courtyard Beijing.
Can't see anything? Cross the street and walk one block keeping the subway station behind you. Look up. You should see the New World Shopping Center now. Look ahead to the right and you should also see a ramen noodle house. One block to the right and around the corner is the main entrance to the Courtyard. Its just beside a shopping mall, the New World Shopping Centre. Its near the subway which is just 2-3 stops from Tianenmen Square and Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. The room is also nice and there are a lot of restaurants around the place.
THE ROOMS
The hotel's lobby looked huge on the website and it was. The business center and gift shop are both in the lobby. You need your room key to use the elevators. The only floor where you do not have to touch your key to the panel first to call the elevator is the 2nd, which is where the entrance to the shopping mall is as well as the Courtyard Cafe and hotel's Chinese Restaurant.
The room was bright, beautiful, comfortable and was tastefully decorated and clean. The bed was average for a Chinese hotel, a bit harder than Westerners may hope for, yet still quite comfortable. The bathroom was very clean with no sign of mould. It contains almost all amenities you would need like flat screen TV,bar, refrigerator, microwave ad flat iron. RESTAURANTS AROUND THE HOTEL
You will be spoiled for choice with a lot of restaurants around the hotel. There are fastfood joints like Kentucky and Ajisen(Japanese resto) as well as foodstalls just infront of the hotel. Caveats
1) Internet is 40RMB for 1 hr and 84rmb for 24 hrs
2) maintenance of lobby and outside lobby area is not well
3) Unfriendly front desk
